Directions for Salisbury Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Corn
Step 1: Prepare the Salisbury Steak Patties
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until well-combined but do not overmix, as this can make the patties tough.
- Form the mixture into 4-5 oval patties.
Step 2: Sear the Patties
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil.
- Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. (They don’t need to be fully cooked yet as they’ll finish cooking in the gravy.)
- Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Make the Gravy
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and mushrooms and sauté until softened, about 5-6 minutes.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms, stirring to coat.
- Slowly add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Cover and let them simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the patties are fully cooked and the gravy is thickened.
Step 4: Prepare the Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- In a saucepan, cover the cubed potatoes and garlic cloves with water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
- Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return them to the pan.
- Add the butter and milk, mashing until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5: Prepare the Corn
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the corn and cook, stirring occasionally, until heated through (about 3-5 minutes).
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Serve each plate with a Salisbury steak patty topped with mushroom gravy, a generous scoop of garlic mashed potatoes, and a side of buttery corn. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
