Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make stuffing balls:
- Stuffing Mix: Choose your favorite stuffing mix. Classic herb stuffing is popular, but cornbread stuffing also works well.
- Butter: To add richness and help bind the stuffing.
- Chicken or Vegetable Broth: Adds moisture and flavor, keeping the stuffing soft on the inside.
- Eggs: Help bind the stuffing together so that it holds its shape as a ball.
- Onion and Celery (optional): Adds flavor and texture to the stuffing. Finely diced and sautéed before mixing.
- Seasoning: Salt, pepper, and herbs like parsley, sage, or thyme as desired.
Kitchen Equipment Needed
- Large Mixing Bowl: To combine ingredients.
- Sauté Pan (if adding vegetables): For cooking the onion and celery.
- Baking Sheet: To bake the stuffing balls.
- Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat: Prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier.
- Basting Brush (optional): If you want to brush the stuffing balls with melted butter for extra crispiness.
- Spoon or Small Ice Cream Scoop: For forming evenly-sized balls.
Directions for Making Perfect Stuffing Balls
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Prepare the Stuffing Mix: In a large mixing bowl, add your stuffing mix and pour in warmed chicken or vegetable broth according to package instructions (usually about 1-1½ cups of broth). Stir until the stuffing is fully moistened.
- Add Additional Ingredients: If you’re using onion and celery, sauté them in a small amount of butter until softened, then add to the stuffing mix. Add eggs and melted butter to help bind the ingredients together.
- Season: Taste the mixture and add salt, pepper, or additional herbs as desired.
- Shape the Balls: Scoop portions of the stuffing mixture (about the size of a golf ball) and roll them into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each ball.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20–25 minutes or until the stuffing balls are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Cool Slightly: Let the stuffing balls cool for a few minutes before serving. They will firm up as they cool, making them easier to handle.
