Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Fries
- Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). - Cut and Soak the Potatoes
Cut the russet potatoes into fries. Soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch (this helps them become crispier). - Season the Fries
Drain and dry the potatoes thoroughly. Toss them in a bowl with olive oil, salt, and paprika until evenly coated. - Bake the Fries
Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Step 2: Caramelize the Onions
- Heat the Pan
In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. - Add Onions
Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20–30 minutes until they are soft and golden brown. - Enhance the Flavor
If desired, sprinkle sugar over the onions during the last 5 minutes of cooking to enhance their sweetness. For added depth, drizzle a little balsamic vinegar over the onions just before removing them from heat.
Step 3: Cook the Ribeye Steak
- Prepare the Steaks
Pat the ribeye steaks dry with paper towels. Rub both sides with olive oil and season generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder (if using). - Heat the Grill or Skillet
Heat a grill or cast-iron skillet over high heat until very hot. - Cook the Steak
Sear the ribeye for about 4–5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, depending on the thickness of the steak. Adjust cooking time to achieve your preferred doneness. - Rest the Steak
Once cooked, remove the steaks from the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Step 4: Assemble the Dish
- Serve the Steak
Place the ribeye steak on a plate, top with caramelized onions, and serve with crispy fries on the side. - Garnish
Sprinkle fresh parsley over the fries and garnish the steak with fresh rosemary or thyme if desired.
