How to Make Nestle Toll House Death by Chocolate Cake
Step 1: Make the Chocolate Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, then line the bottoms with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
- Stir in the boiling water slowly (the batter will be thin), but this step is essential for creating a moist cake.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 2: Prepare the Chocolate Filling
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat.
- Add the Nestle Toll House chocolate chips and butter to the hot cream and let it sit for a minute, then stir until smooth.
- Stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the mixture to cool until it thickens slightly, but is still spreadable.
Step 3: Make the Chocolate Ganache
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just starts to simmer. Remove from heat.
- Add the chocolate chips and let them sit in the hot cream for a minute before stirring until smooth and glossy.
- Set the ganache aside to cool slightly so it thickens, but is still pourable.
