Directions for Making Meatball Casserole
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the Meatballs
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, milk, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
3. Form the Meatballs
Using your hands, roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs. Place the meatballs on a plate or baking sheet until all are formed.
4. Brown the Meatballs (Optional for Extra Flavor)
For extra flavor, you can sear the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat with a little oil until they’re browned on all sides. This step adds flavor but is optional if you’re short on time.
5. Assemble the Casserole
In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place the meatballs in a single layer on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the meatballs, making sure each one is covered.
6. Add Cheese
Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and additional Parmesan cheese evenly over the sauce-covered meatballs.
7. Bake
Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden.
8. Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and let the casserole sit for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley, if desired, and serve warm with pasta, garlic bread, or a side salad.
