Ingredients for Cabbage and Ground Beef
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup beef broth (optional, for extra moisture)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
How to Make Cabbage and Ground Beef
Step 1: Cook the Ground Beef
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess fat if necessary.
Step 2: Add the Onion and Garlic
- Stir in the diced onion and cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, until fragrant.
Step 3: Add the Cabbage
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to combine with the beef mixture.
- Season with smoked paprika, dried thyme, salt, and pepper.
- If using, pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce for added moisture and flavor.
Step 4: Simmer the Dish
- Cover the skillet and let the cabbage cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender but not mushy.
- Remove the lid and continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow any excess liquid to evaporate.
Step 5: Garnish and Serve
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.
