Step 5: Shape the Dough
Divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a log or disk. If you prefer, you can wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Chilled dough is easier to handle and may produce thicker cookies.
Step 6: Cut Out Cookies
Roll out each portion of the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, and transfer the cut-out cookies to the prepared baking sheets. Leave some space between each cookie to allow for spreading during baking.
Step 7: Decorate (Optional)
If you’d like, sprinkle colored sugar or decorative sprinkles on top of the cookies before baking. This adds a festive touch.
Step 8: Bake
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking. The baking time may vary depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.
