Step 1: Make the Special Sauce
- In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, French dressing, sweet pickle relish, finely minced white onion, white vinegar, sugar, and salt.
- Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate the special sauce for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 2: Prepare the Patties
- Divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions.
- Form each portion into a thin patty.
- Season the patties with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook the patties on a hot grill or in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 2-3 minutes per side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty to melt.
