Preheat the oven to 350 *. Cube baking place in a large bowl.
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, half, half, sugar, salt and vanilla to the eggs; Whisk. Pour over the bread. Leave it to sit 10 to 15 minutes
In another small bowl, combine with a fork, soft butter, brown sugar and pecans. The combination will have the consistency of wet sand.
Pour half the bread mixture into an 8 × 8 “frying pan. Top with half the pecan mixture. Pour the remaining bread mixture over the top and cover with the remaining pecan mixture. Press the pan a little. The pan will be really full. Top with the remaining pecan mixture.
Place a frying pan on the cookie sheet with a edge to pick up a mixture that may boil. Bake in 350 * 45 to 55 minutes. The center will be a little wobbly, but it will be set when it is cold. This recipe easily doubles for a 9 × 13 frying pan.
