Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender, about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the butter and remove from heat. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- Roll out the pie dough on a lightly floured surface. Using a round cutter (about 4-5 inches in diameter), cut out circles from the dough.
- Place a spoonful of the apple filling on one half of each circle.
- Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, fry the pies in batches, turning once, until golden brown. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the pies with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
2. Fried Peach Pies
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of peeled and diced fresh peaches
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp butter
- Store-bought or homemade pie dough
- Oil for frying
